Acknowledgement of Borrowed Teachings & Land

Borrowed Teachings

We gratefully acknowledge the profound influence of Southeast Asian culture on the development and evolution of yoga. The rich tapestry of wisdom, traditions, and spiritual practices from countries such as India, Thailand, Indonesia, and beyond.

From the intricate philosophies of Hinduism and Buddhism to the movements of traditional dance forms like Thai Classical Dance and Indonesian Javanese Dance, Southeast Asia's diverse heritage has guided the teachings of Yoga, these threads of mindfulness, meditation, and physical disciplines throughout the millenia.

We honour and respect the ancient teachings, sacred texts, and cultural practices that have been shared generously with the world, shaping yoga into a holistic path for personal growth, self-awareness, and unity.

May we continue to learn from and celebrate the wisdom of Southeast Asian cultures as we journey deeper into the transformative practice of yoga.

Land Acknowledgment

We respectfully acknowledge that our practice takes place on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and in the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include: Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville, Scugog Island, Rama, Beausoleil, and Georgina Island First Nations.

In houring collective wellness and stewardship of the lands and waters, we honour the teachings of the indigenous people.

May we learn from the Indigenous Communities to care for the water we drink, the food we eat and the lands in which we walk upon.

Honouring the earth, the waters, the land and acknowledging as a colonizer that it is a collective duty to continue to respect and care for the borrowed lands from the Indigenous Peoples.

The Lake Hippie respectfully acknowledges that the Williams Treaties First Nations are the stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters in perpetuity, and that they continue to maintain this responsibility to ensure their health and integrity for generations to come.

May we honour their teachings and stewardship.
